The project
Chalet Schwarzbirg is located on steep terrain in Wengen in the Bernese Oberland. The apartment building consists of a massive basement and 3 full floors above ground in timber construction.
The construction method
All walls were prefabricated as elements in timber frame construction. Ribbed slabs with fan-shaped cantilevered ribs were chosen for the floor slabs to support the balconies. The calculations were challenging because the balconies have a large cantilever and run across corners. The exterior staircase was built in solid construction and connects to the individual apartments with landings.
