Replacement Multi-family house, Dübendorf

The project
The apartment building in Dübendorf has a basement in reinforced concrete and 5 floors above in wood with a wooden staircase. There are a total of 5 apartments in the building on the ground and upper floors. The basement only contains cellars and technical rooms. The facade is partly covered with PV modules and horizontal timber cladding.

The construction method
The walls are of frame construction and the floor slabs are constructed with horizontal glulam. The stairwell and the bracing walls are constructed with cross-laminated timber walls.

The challenge
It was a challenge to find a suitable bracing system, as the floor plan is very compact in relation to the height and the walls are correspondingly short. This was solved with cross-laminated timber walls, which were braced with threaded rods.
