The project
The new «Château d'eau» school complex in Marly has twelve classrooms, four kindergarten rooms and a double gymnasium. The school center is divided into three Minergie-P-Eco buildings in timber construction. Each building contains a specific program:
- Elementary school
- Kindergarten with after-school care
- gymnasium.
The construction is designed as a load-bearing timber structure based on a modular grid. The constructive structure, sound insulation and lighting combine to create a warm and calm atmosphere that is perfect for everyday school life.
The construction method
The primary structure is based on the principle of post-and-beam construction. It therefore perfectly fulfills the concept of flexibility required in school construction and enables a flexible distribution of rooms. The floor slabs and the roof are planned as filigree elements reminiscent of traditional beams.
The challenge
In order to be in line with sustainable development, preference was given to wood from the region with a short supply chain. An environmentally friendly process for clean wood was ensured through tenders for sawing, drying and gluing.
