Instructive Construction AG (incon.ai) from Zurich is revolutionizing timber construction with augmented reality (AR). Their technology projects true-to-scale construction instructions directly onto production stations, increasing productivity by up to 20% and significantly reducing errors.
Zurich-based Instructive Construction AG (incon.ai) has developed an innovative AR technology that makes timber construction more efficient and precise. By projecting true-to-scale step-by-step construction instructions directly onto the prefabrication stations, the entire production process in the timber construction plant can be optimized. This technology enables an increase in productivity of up to 20 % in planning and production and at the same time significantly reduces the error rate.
An outstanding example of the successful use of this technology is the new «Langgrüt» housing estate in the green and family-friendly Albisrieden district. Despite the high density, the 155 modern apartments offer a high quality of living. Thanks to an energy concept with geothermal probes and PV systems as well as a reduced number of parking spaces, the project meets the requirements of the 2000-watt society.
The AR solution from incon.ai is used by Implenia in element production. Using the 3D models created by Timbatec, the incon.ai system automatically generates AR construction plans for production. This automated plan output eliminates the need to create 2D construction plans, leaving more time for value-adding planning work.
Two ceiling projectors visualized the production processes for construction, insulation, electrical conduits and planking directly on the element tables. This enabled the employees to nail the planking precisely onto the ribs and to position drill holes, recesses and fixtures exactly. Panel protrusions and cut-backs were also visualized, largely eliminating the need for manual measuring and re-measuring and saving valuable time.
Another advantage of incon.ai technology is the ability to superimpose elements and dispense with printed design and revision plans. This results in paperless production, which is both environmentally friendly and eliminates potential sources of error. In addition, the intuitive operation of the AR application supports employees at all qualification levels, which reduces training costs and makes familiarization easier.
