Cleverly designed, sustainably built. Last spring, the new pavilion in Uster town park was erected by the professionals from Holzbau Oberholzer, Eschenbach. Within a short space of time, the timber construction design conceived by Winfried Schneider has become Uster's meeting zone.
Thanks to the minimal use of fasteners, the pavilion can be dismantled at any time and reassembled at an alternative location. In addition to the range of wood products used, which stores CO₂ and actively protects the climate, reuse and circular construction were generally prominent on the project agenda. The foundations used were made from used concrete slabs from the Zurich-Kloten airport runway.
The basic shape of the pavilion is based on the classic typology of historical park buildings. Its hexagonal floor plan offers access from all sides, seating steps and a ramp for wheelchair users. This concept makes it the focal point of the new extension and creates a link between the private and public spheres.
With this sustainable addition, the town park in Uster contributes to the enhancement of public spaces. The project sends out a clear signal for environmentally conscious and socially responsible urban development.
